Today i finlize my projects track listing, The Junk Story Mixtape, Is very real and completed.
This isn't to say I'm done with said project. Now if anything i must gear up into the most unpleasent part of this industry, the marking, photo shoots and of course booking alot more shows. That machine though hopefully wont kick in to much later. Right now i want to take time to carefully break each track down, as to carefully explain the project in a way that i may not be able to do once the promotian gears up.
Junk Story by MC C.B.
1. Dried ink(prod. by Uyama Hiroto)
This track was originally a poem i penned, towards the end of a relationship. It speaks on being left in a deep dark room, alone. and how love shouldn't be so. Set to Uyama Hiroto's Last Transit , i feel its a great mood setter for the first half of the C.D.
2. Its only Fair(prod. By Shin-ski)
This song is about being left in the cold by the ones you love, its set to "vega" by pseudo hip-hop jazz producer Shin-ski. I wrote this song as a way to convey my disappointment in the people around me at the time of the production of this CD, it was very hard in many ways creating what i felt was art and being left out in the cold, by my friends, Etc. It was therapy in its rawest form. It also continues the idea, that junk is always "thrown away" before its story can be told.
3. Time to compromise( prod. By DJ Whitesmith)
Perhaps the most telling of all the tracks on the project about my most recent past relationship, In it i keep asking "for a bit of time, and a little bit of patience". As i just wanted to explain all the mis understanding, how ever in the song, just as with life, she was to busy chasing another man. And in the song such as real life, I gave up.(Thank you for your time, thank you for your patience)
4.Junk Story(A)(prod. by Valentin)
Junk story which is the title track for the CD tells the story of a junkie. What the person is strung out on remains to be interpreted. Set to the brooding track of "against" by producer Valentin, it is spoken from the perspective of a friend trying to save his friend from the issues of abuse. I wanted to convey that we are all addicts, And in being so we should all understand that what addicts go through. No one Should be thrown away, as every pieace of junk holds its on unique story. This also caps off the first "junk" part of the mixtape, from this track on the CD retains a more upbeat and hopeful out look.
5. Complex divisons. ( prod by Sega)
Another poem set to a lovely calm beat. I attempted to explain the addicts side of the story, explain how much he loved "her" and how he wanted it to work. He also knew he messed up on many levels. but he knew it and in many ways he was ready to move on.
6. Past decisions (prod. by Shin-ski){formally Foolish youth}
This song was ornglly recorded under the name Foolish youth, it told the story of a boyfriend feeling bad about the way he treated a girlfriend in their earlyer years. The video of said song can be found.
here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qcn4EcRkaR4
I re-recorded however due to a change in personal preference, She did wrong as well. So hes sorry, but hes not.
7. Imperfection( prod. By nomak)
Set to in the Dope, by acclaimed producer Nomak, Imperfection explains that no matter what im not perfect, and the people telling me to give up can .... you get the rest. This is a personal fav, as i hope people can take it and apply it to them selves, Very hard, very aggressive, very real track indeed.
8. Rebal from the waist Down( prod by Vybez beats)
This song is a feel good song, about being drunk and letting your waist tell you where to go and what to do. It shouldn't be taken to serious, I placed it here as a way to counter balance the seriousness of the latter half of the mix tape. We all want to drink and dance, at some point no?
9.Do for love(tupac remix)
I wrote this song to the classic tupac song, Do for love. It talks about falling in love to quick And all the stigmas involved. I hoped to create some sort of understanding that i know falling to quick is not right or healthy, but sometimes we cant help but fall for the person who has captured our hearts. Just as tupac explained in his version, I did my best to readjust the song for a modern generation. This is also the only "unoriginal" instrumental on the CD.
10.I was thinking....(pro by Kondor)
Remember how it was in high school? trying to talk to that boy or girl you really liked from afar? I went back to that innocence place for this song. I take the place of a shy timid soul just trying to convey adaration to the girl of his dreams. It contains a focal point i believe we have all been some place, and hopefully will be again.
11. Stay with you(Prod. By lemon Jelly)
This may be the odd ball out of the track listing( haha). It contains a 1970's sampled beat made by techno savvy group Lemon Jelly. It loops the sound, Stay with you, Over and over. I take the place of a scorned lover doing his best to show his girlfriend he , well wants to stay with her. He pleads his case with no real resolution at the end...Poor guy. :)
12. This is love( Prod. Force of nature)
Perhaps the oldest of the bunch, This song has been around in one version or another since 2006. I have recorded it many times, trying to get the feeling right. Its a personal favorite live as the crowd loves chanting "LOVE" and being part of the experience. Its about well, Being in love, and how wonderful that can be. Produced by acclaimed Samurai champloo( a Japanese Anime show) composers Force of nature, it is a song Tied to the act of falling in love. This is love.
The Tragic hero trilogy ( all three prod. By Suburban)
13. Broken desire
14. Edward scissor-hands
15. Say anything
These three songs tell the story of the tragic hero, And his attempts at.....To be honest i dont know. They where poems that sort of happened, They are RAW, in the sense that none of them are written its all emotion what you hear. But it does retain some since of form. Broken desire is anger, Edward is loneliness and Say anything is tragic love. The version they are lumped together in such a way is to insure the each are listened in order, as they where recorded in such a fire storm of passion i felt to separate them would be down right wrong. Its Tragic that such feeling has been displayed on this CD as oppose to someone who could appreciate such loving and course words. But that is why our hero is a hero, He stands his ground even in the face of unbelievable opposition. looks like i found out.
16. Little did i figure( prod. By Uyama Hiroto)
The last track, I wanted to send the listener off with an upbeat end to an extremely emotion CD. Little did i figure i would fall in love. It is a saying i have somewhat perfected, and others have as well im sure. This song tells my experience from encounter to capture. Its playful sweet and honest, and honestly the best way to say good bye.
